EXCLUSIVE: Anne Hathaway and Dave Bautista will star in an untitled action comedy (being called the Wedding Sting) that Jonathan Tropper is scripting for Amazon MGM Studios and AGBO. The film is inspired by an actual FBI sting in which agents posed as a couple to infiltrate global criminal enterprises. It culminated in a staged wedding in New Jersey. When the crime bosses checked in for their table assignments, they were arrested and dragged away so as not to tip off the next suspect.
The film will be produced by AGBO principals Joe and Anthony Russo, along with Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco. AGBO brought the package to Amazon MGM, its partner on a second season of Citadel and the upcoming feature The Bluff. Also producing are Hathaway through her Somewhere Pictures banner and Bautista through his Dogbone Entertainment banner.
The story will be refashioned into a mismatched partner story of two undercover FBI agents with radically different styles being forced to pretend to cohabitate. Initially, they detest one another. By the end they learn to respect each other as the case winds to a close.
Tropper is the author and screenwriter of the hit This Is Where I Leave You, and The Adam Project, and he recently set at Apple The Corsair Code with Chris Hemsworth, the Lucky TV series with Anya Taylor-Joy for Reese Witherspoon and Apple TV+, and he’s collaborating on a Star Wars movie with Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy. He also scripted the Amazon MGM action film The Wrecking Crew, which Bautista is shooting with Jason Momoa. He’s repped by CAA and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment and Felker Toczek; Hathaway is CAA, Entertainment 360 and Sloane Offer; and Bautista is CAA, Jackoway Austen Tyerman and Meisner Entertainment Group.
