Univision is making a notable shift to its primetime programming in 2025, cutting a telenovela timeslot to premiere the true crime show Código de Investigación.
Borja Voces is set to host Código de Investigación, which will broadcast live on weeknights starting on January 14, 2025, at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
On Código de Investigación, Voces, the host of Univision’s Edición Digital newcast, will explore the most captivating and shocking crime stories that have captured the public’s attention. Each episode will feature in-depth investigations, expert analysis, testimonials, and cutting-edge technology to bring viewers closer to the truth.
A team of renowned experts in different fields, such as criminologists, mental health professionals, police officers, and forensic specialists, will guide viewers through complex cases, offering unique insights and uncovering hidden truths.
Código de Investigación will not only examine past crimes that have shaken communities but also follow current cases, providing live updates and exclusive interviews with key players. The series aims to deliver an entertaining and empathetic approach to true crime storytelling, combining investigative journalism with compelling narratives.
The move to air a U.S.-produced show on Univision’s primetime is a big shift for the TelevisaUnivision network, which has mostly devoted its nightly programming to telenovelas produced in Mexico. However, it’s not the first time that the Spanish-language network has used its 10 p.m. timeslot for content other than telenovelas.
Before Telemundo’s La Reina del Sur captivated audiences in that timeslot back in 2011, giving their rival network a headache and forcing them to counter-program with grittier telenovelas, Univision aired various shows in the 10 p.m. hour. The 10 p.m. timeslot aired weekly shows like a primetime edition of Cristina Saralegui’s eponymous talk show, Sábado Gigante’s host Don Francisco Presenta late-night show, and investigative show Aqui y Ahora, among many others.
Univision is currently airing the telenovela titled El Precio de Amarte, which consists of 50 episodes and is set to wrap at the beginning of 2025.
