Mystery Solved Of Why Michael Mosley Left Phone At Home Day He Died

The coroner’s report into the death of British TV doctor Michael Mosley has revealed further details into the tragic final moments of the popular presenter and writer on a Greek island holiday.

Mosley died in early June 2024 after he got lost during a mountainous walk and collapsed on the island of Symi in the Aegean Sea, only one day into his holiday with his wife and friends. The Sun newspaper reports that the coroner’s report labelled the exact reason why Mosley died as “indeterminate” and “unascertainable” – while suggesting that two probable causes included heatstroke or a non-identified pathology. Foul play and suicide were both ruled out.

The doctor had made the fateful decision to separate from his group and walk back to his holiday home from Pedi Beach, where they had arrived mid-morning by ferry from another part of the island. One of the mysteries surrounding Mosley’s death was why he didn’t have his mobile phone on him when he disappeared. The coroner’s report included the detail, gleaned from conversations with his travelling companions, that he had deliberately left the phone at his villa to avoid it getting wet on the ferry.

This fateful decision meant that, when he is presumed to have fallen ill on his walk, Mosley was unable to raise the alarm. It also meant that neither his family nor authorities were able to track him. His body was finally found five days after his disappearance, after a huge search across the island involving more than 100 volunteers.

Mosley was one of the UK’s most popular presenters, using TV shows and podcasts to share his research into health and nutrition. He also wrote best-selling books about the same subjects, and helped popularise the 5:2 diet.
