The actor who made this big decision of choosing a Hindi film over an American show is Omi Vaidya. Yes, Chatur from 3 IDiots. It has become one of the most popular characters over the years. The know-it-all who is always trying to challenge Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan and Sharman Joshi in the Rajkumar Hirani-directed film. In an interview, Omi has made some interesting revelations about landing a part in Khan’s movie.
While talking to SCREEN, Omi Vaidya shared how it feels great to see 3 Idiots receive so much love even after more than a decade.He talked about auditioning for the film when he was in Hollywood, working on The Office. He was in India for a wedding and one of his friends suggested he audition for the role as the makers were looking for newcomers in America. At that time, Vaidya had watched only 2-3 Hindi films.
Omi Vaidya, who was only focused on American projects at that time, decided to give it a try. He was given Sharman Joshi, aka Raju Rastogi’s lines for the audition. The casting director saw that Omi can’t speak the language and didn’t let him audition. However, the Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji actor later got a call and was given Lage Raho Munna Bhai script and was asked to practice. Omi said that he was purposely making mistakes during the audience and went back to America and didn’t think of it.

Further in this entertainment news, Omi Vaidya revealed that when he went back, he got a role for How I Met Your Mother. But even the 3 Idiots team liked the actor’s audition. “That video has gone around and they all loved me; Aamir was cast by then. They asked me to come to New Mexico for another audition; I had to give up that very good call for HIMYM. After the audition, Raju called and said, ‘You are getting better at Hindi; don’t do better. We want your Hindi to be weak. Keep yourself away from it; don’t learn it’,” Vaidya revealed.
Well, Omi Vaidya took the part and the rest is history.
