Chrissy Metz (This Is Us), Jaime Ray Newman (Dopesick), Katie Lowes (Scandal), and George Ferrier (One of Us Is Lying) have been cast as series regulars in Starz‘s upcoming drama series The Hunting Wives, alongside previously announced Malin Åkerman, Brittany Snow, Dermot Mulroney, and Evan Jonigkeit. Production is underway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Written by Rebecca Cutter based on May Cobb’s novel of the same name, The Hunting Wives tells the story of Sophie O’Neil (Snow) and her family’s move from the East Coast to deep East Texas, where she succumbs to socialite Margo Bank’s (Åkerman) irresistible charms – and finds her life consumed by obsession, seduction and murder.
Metz plays Starr. Abby’s mother, a proud working-class woman and staunch Christian. Although she’s active at church and her daughter dates the star point guard Brad, she is not welcomed in the high-society world of the Hunting Wives. As a result, she will clash fiercely with Brad’s mother Jill.
Newman portrays Callie, who is married to the powerful Sheriff Jonny, and a powerhouse in her own right. She’s an amazing marksman, and she’s the second in command of the Hunting Wives (right below Margo). But she is also deeply in love with Margo and jealous of Sophie’s newfound influence.
Lowes is Jill, the wife of Reverend Clint, and the queen of the mega church. But she’s trapped in a loveless marriage, and as a result, she is overly invested in her son Brad’s life. And as we will soon find out, she will do anything to protect him.
Ferrier plays Brad. On the outside Brad is the perfect All-Texan boy – rich, handsome, and athletic with a bright future. But behind closed doors, Brad is the keeper of many secrets – including an emotionally incestuous relationship with his mother Jill, and an affair with one of his mother’s best friends.
The Hunting Wives is executive produced by Cutter (Hightown), who will write and serve as showrunner, Erwin Stoff (The Serpent Queen, The Matrix, Edge of Tomorrow, Julia) for 3 Arts Entertainment and Cobb. The series is produced by Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Metz is best known for her breakout role as Kate Pearson in NBC’s This Is Us. She’ll next be seen in the upcoming British comedy, Bank of Dave: The Sequel, based on a true story about victims of payday lenders. Metz is repped by CAA and Luber Roklin Entertainment.
Newman will next be seen in a recurring role on Apple TV’s The Big Cigar, directed by Don Cheadle. Xhe can currently be seen starring in the Titus Kaphar directed Exhibiting Forgiveness, which premiered in competition at the 2024 Sundance festival. She most recently played Kathe Sackler in the Emmy winning Hulu series Dopesick. She’s repped by The Burstein Company and Greene Talent.
Lowes, best known for her role as Quinn Perkins on all seven seasons of ABC’s Scandal, was most recently seen in the romantic comedy Merry Kiss Cam. Lowes is repped by The Gersh Agency, Framework Entertainment and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.
Ferrier first garnered attention with a breakout performance in Matthew Saville’s feature Juniper. He went on to appear in multi-season recurring roles in Peacock series One Of Us Is Lying and Netflix’s Sweet Tooth. He’s repped by Circle of Confusion and Odd Management in New Zealand.
