We’re getting the first look at Jeremy Renner in the upcoming third season of Mayor of Kingstown. Paramount+ has dropped the first trailer and unveiled a spring premiere date for the upcoming season which sees Renner’s Mike McClusky in a fight against a fierce Russian mob.
Season 3 will debut Sunday, June 2 in the U.S. and Canada and will begin roling out on June 3 in all other Paramount+ markets.
The Season 3 premiere comes some 18 months after a snowplow accident nearly ended Renner’s life. The actor broke 30 bones when he was pulled under a snow-removal tractor and crushed in a New Year’s Day accident at his Lake Tahoe home. He was treated for blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and was hospitalized for 16 days. Renner chronicled his recovery throughout on Instagram.
Co-created by Oscar nominee Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon, Mayor of Kingstown follows the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.
Per the logline, in season three, a series of explosions rock Kingstown and its citizens, as a new face of the Russian mob sets up shop in the city, and a drug war rages inside and outside prison walls. The pressure is on Mike McLusky (Renner) to end the war but things get complicated when a familiar face from his incarcerated past threatens to undermine the Mayor’s attempts to keep the peace among all factions.
Dillon also stars along with Taylor Handley, Emma Laird, Tobi Bamtefa, Derek Webster, Nishi Munshi, Hamish Allan-Headley and Michael Beach.
Mayor of Kingstown is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions exclusively for Paramount+. The series is executive produced by Sheridan, Dillon, Renner, Antoine Fuqua, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Dave Erickson, Regina Corrado and Keith Cox.
