There was little love for the divorcing Golden Bachelor couple on The View today, as the cohosts on ABC’s daytime talker took aim at ABC’s romance-for-seniors reality show.
“For six months you tortured me every Friday and made me talk about this topic, which I can’t stand because I think it’s manufactured and a complete crock,” said Ana Navarro about the View‘s weekly Golden Bachelor post-mortems. “So today I get to say, I told you so, I told you so, I told you so.”
Earlier today on ABC’s Good Morning America, Golden Bachelor couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist announced that they are getting a divorce just three months after their much-hyped televised wedding in January.
Navarro had previously spoken about her dislike for the Bachelor show and the genre, but cohost Sunny Hostin had been a fan. Past tense.
“I fell for this nonsense,” Hostin said on The View today. “I’m upset. I thought since they were older they knew better and they could find love and they didn’t.”
The reality dating show did have one supporter on The View panel, though: Alyssa Farah Griffin pointed out, “You don’t watch it to watch people find lasting love, you watch to see how the social experiment works. It’s filmed over six weeks. They’re dating other people. If you make it to the Honeymoon Suites, he’s probably slept with another person, or she has, right before proposing to you.”
After cohosts Joy Behar expressed mock concern for “the grandchildren” and Sara Haines said the couple’s mistake was having their rushed wedding televised, Navarro got the last word before the show went to commercial:
“The mistake,” Navarro said, “was going on national TV to try to feign a relationship and love. I’ve had pimples that last longer than this marriage.”
