EXCLUSIVE: Italian producer Andrea Iervolino, whose credits include Ferrari and To The Bone, has made his directorial debut with documentaries Discovery Tanzania and The Trackers.

Both films are due to launch online this week and are fronted by model and travel blogger Sarah Kohan. They are the first in a slate of culture and natural world docs and series directed by Iervolino. The others are in post-production.

Discovery Tanzania charts the complex relationship and historical conflicts between two of the country’s iconic tribes: the Maasai and the Tatoga. Led by Kohan, the documentary enters the villages and homes of the communities, revealing deep-rooted rivalries that have defined the relationship between the tribes for generations. The film also examines the role of the Tanzanian government in attempting to mediate and resolve their disputes.

The Trackers reveals the often dangerous life of “trackers” — the skilled safari guides specialized in locating and observing the most beautiful, and perilous wildlife: lions, buffalo, rhinos, elephants, and hyenas. Also fronted by Kohan, the film explores the journeys and experiences of these often fearless individuals.

Iervolino said: “With Discovery Tanzania and The Trackers, I wanted to portray Africa in a new light, going beyond its breathtaking nature and wild beauty to explore the intricate dynamics of life that make this continent so unique. I chose to focus on the stories of local tribes, such as the Maasai and the Tatoga, to reveal the complexity of their relationships, their conflicts, and their resilience. At the same time, with the trackers, I sought to uncover the lesser-known, fascinating side of those who live every day in close contact with the wilderness, often coming from other parts of the world.”

He continued: “Africa is so much more than stunning landscapes and majestic animals. It is a tapestry of cultures, traditions, and personal stories that deserve to be told authentically. Through these documentaries, my goal is to offer a profound and fresh perspective on a continent that is as extraordinary as it is complex.”

Producer Iervolino is currently in production on sports car biopic Maserati: The Two Brothers, starring Anthony Hopkins, Andy Garcia, Salvatore Esposito, Jessica Alba and Michele Morrone.
