Once again, Netflix hit a home run with its latest holiday film. Carry-On, the airport Christmas thriller starring Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman, and Sofia Carson, managed to top the English films list with 42M views.
It was, undoubtedly, the most-watched title of the week and, in fact, had the biggest opening for a Netflix film this year, making its way into the Top 10 in 93 countries.
Audiences stayed in the holiday spirit, flocking to titles like That Christmas, which came in at No. 2 with 17.1M views, and Mary, which got third place with 13.2M views. The Grinch and Our Little Secret also rounded out the list.
One non-holiday offering that managed to break through the noise was It Ends With Us. That became available on the streamer December 9, quickly soaring to No. 5 on the English film list with 10.9M views.
The TV side of things wasn’t quite so cheery, as Black Doves took the top spot again with another 14.6M views. It stayed in the Top 10 in 92 countries, Netflix says.
Jamie Foxx’s stand-up special What Had Happened Was… brought the laughs, impressively climbing to No. 2 with 8.2M views. No Good Deed made its debut at No. 3 with 6M views, and A Man on the Inside held onto eighth place with another 1.9M views.
Sabrina Carpenter brought the holiday cheer over in the TV world with her special A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter, which came in at No. 7 with 2M views.
The rest of the English TV list was dominated by unscripted content like Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey and The Kings of Tupelo: A Southern Crime Saga.
