The All American universe is returning to The CW very soon.
While audiences will have to wait a few more months until they catch up with the students at Bringston University on All American: Homecoming, production is in full swing on the upcoming 13-episode season.
Showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll teased to Deadline during All American‘s 100th episode party that they are currently shooting “what might be one of my favorite episodes of the season.”
“It is sort of a tribute to my love of rom coms [and] my love of beautiful, slow-evolving relationship movies and dramas where we’re just centered around two characters in one day in their life over the course of this episode, and I’m just so incredibly excited,” she said.
According to Carroll, Season 3 of All American: Homecoming will experience a similar time jump to that of the flagship series, which is picking up with Season 6 just over a year after the events of the Season 5 finale.
Shifts in the casting have hinted at some larger changing narratives in Season 3 of Homecoming, with both Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette becoming recurring instead of series regulars while Martin Bobb-Semple was upped to series regular.
Carroll remained tight-lipped about those changes, but she did tease that audiences should expect the unexpected from the writers room this season.
“The actors have taken the new direction we’ve taken the show in and they’ve just raised it to another level,” she said. “I am so excited for people to see this season of Homecoming and how our characters have also grown and matured and how they’re now handling situations differently.”
All American: Homecoming is a young adult sports drama set against the backdrop of the HBCU experience at Bringston University, where Black excellence is a way of life. The series stars Geffri Maya, Cory Hardrict, Sylvester Powell, Camille Hyde, Mitchell Edwards, Netta Walker and Rhoyle Ivy King. Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette will recur.
So far, there’s no release date for Season 3 of Homecoming, though it’ll debut sometime in the summer following the 13-episode Season 6 of All American, which premieres on April 1.
