King Charles Attends Church In First Big Event Since Cancer Diagnosis

King Charles has stepped out for a church service in London, in his first major public appearance since sharing his cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The King attended the Easter service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor, accompanied by Queen Camilla and other members of the family.

He was seen waving to people around the Chapel, and mouthing “thankyou” for shouts of support from the crowds.

Neither his son Prince William nor his daughter-in-law Kate attended the event, following Kate’s video message last week that she has begun cancer treatment after abdominal surgery earlier in the year.

The King, who has previously attended the service on foot, arrived by car. He has undertaken private events since his health diagnosis was made public, but the BBC reports he will continue to keep away from crowds and public events while he continues his treatment. It calls today’s event is a “careful step back into public life.”

On Thursday, he missed the traditional Maundy Thursday service, which was instead attended by Queen Camilla, while the King sent a video message.

William and Kate had previously said they would not be attending the event. Kate’s video message last week coincided with their three children breaking up for the school holidays, and the family is now away from London in their country home in Norfolk. Kate is not expected to return to royal duties for some time, as she continues her treatment. She and Prince William earlier this week sent a message thanking the public for their support and well wishes since she shared her message concerning her health.
