Politico has hired NBC News correspondent Dasha Burns as its White House bureau chief.
Burns, who reported on the Trump campaign in the recent election, has been with the network for eight years, starting as associate producer.
Politico’s global editor in chief John Harris wrote in a memo to staffers, “As a national correspondent for NBC News, Dasha gained widespread attention for her in-depth reporting during the 2022 U.S. midterm elections. Her exclusive interview with Pennsylvania Senate candidate John Fetterman sparked a national conversation about health and transparency in politics, cementing her reputation as a tenacious, fair, and incisive journalist. Dasha’s ability to bring complex stories to life in ways that are urgent, distinctive and relevant aligns perfectly with Politico’s mission to provide readers with unparalleled depth and breadth of coverage.”
Harris noted that during the 2024 campaign, Burns led coverage of the July assassination attempt on Trump’s life. Earlier in the campaign, she landed the first sitdown interview with then-candidate Ron DeSantis.
Burns was born in Ukraine and raised in California, and graduated from University of California at Berkeley with degrees in media studies and anthropology. She will join Politico in early January.
