Orthopedic AVSC Floater Technician (ANML HEALTH TCHN 3) Job Summary Under the direction of the Small Animal Surgical Services/Anesthesia manager and the Orthopedic Surgery Supervisor and the Advanced Veterinary Surgery Center (AVSC) supervisor, facilitate the scheduling of Orthopedic Surgery patients and manage patient care and client communication within the Orthopedic Surgery Service. This role is responsible for ensuring patient care standards for hospitalized patients, preparing patients for surgery, participating in surgeries as a surgical assistant, circulating in the operating room, and providing anesthesia support, including induction, monitoring, and post-surgical recovery of patients. Additional, responsibilities include client communication and education, including patient admissions and discharges This position will rotate between the VMTH and AVSC. Work cooperatively with others to foster strong team commitments towards achieving Surgery services objectives.
This position may be eligible for a hiring bonus. RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date. - Must have valid California driver's license.
- Experience with animal restraint and performing venipuncture and placing vascular and urinary catheters.
- Proficient in administering and maintaining anesthesia, as well as overseeing recovery in veterinary patients.
- Experience in calculating and administering medications intravenously, subcutaneously, intramuscular or orally.
- Proficient in identifying and navigating challenging or difficult situations and individuals with tact and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications - Experience handling complications of various surgical procedures; anticipating and responding quickly to surgeons and patient's needs.
- Skill to maintain flexibility in continuously changing and fast paced work environment.
- Skill to aseptically scrub, gown, and glove.
- Skill to work cooperatively with others to foster strong team commitments towards achieving Surgery services objectives.

Physical Demands
- Maneuver/lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Handle animals weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Contact with animals, including restraint of animals (sometimes fractious) is required.
- Stand, bend, kneel, squat, reach above shoulder level and move on hard surfaces up to 8 or 10 hours each day.
- Required to wear protective clothing for extended periods of time including: gown, coveralls, gloves, masks, face shields, goggles, sleeves and head covers.
Work Environment
- Work occasional overtime; work schedule subject to change with prior notification.
- Work under Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
- Work under regular exposure to zoonotic diseases, anesthesia, cleaning chemicals and exposure to radioactive patients.
- Requires working with or around areas with sick animals, hazardous materials, and/or infectious diseases, and distraught clients.-Work in high traffic areas, confined or small spaces, noisy environment and tolerate unpleasant odors.
- Fluctuating meal periods; work schedule may not allow a set meal period time each day.
- No eating or drinking in surgery, treatment, procedure and other rooms or areas of the hospital.
- Work in other related areas on an as needed basis.
- Must enroll in the DMV pull notice system.
