Department Summary


The UCLA Department of Psychology is an exceptional department known for its excellence in research, teaching, and service. With a distinguished faculty comprising more than 60 ladder rank members, it is one of the nation's top psychology departments. Its undergraduate program is the largest within the Division of Life Sciences and the UCLA College, with more than 4,700 undergraduate students enrolled across three majors: Psychology, Psychobiology, and Cognitive Science. The department also offers a comprehensive Ph.D. program with eight areas of study to approximately 200 enrolled graduate students.

Position Summary



Seeking a self-motivated, reliable, organized, and detail-oriented individual to serve as a lab manager who will facilitate the acquisition, analysis, and organization of neuroimaging, biospecimen, and behavioral data collected for NIH-funded projects in Dr. Tiffany Ho’s laboratory in the Department of Psychology at UCLA. Dr. Ho’s research examines how experiences of stress impact inflammatory signaling and brain metabolism and morphometry in adolescents who experience a range of depressive symptoms. The lab leverages multimodal MRI-based approaches, blood-based immune markers, passive sensing data via smartphone apps, computerized cognitive tasks, and behavioral methods to address these questions and provides a rich training environment for aspiring clinical, developmental, and/or affective neuroscientists or psychologists. Under the supervision of Dr. Ho, the individual in this position will coordinate all aspects of data collection and scheduling across multiple projects, will be responsible for working with Dr. Ho on internal and external reports for these projects, will maintain a “lab wiki” and data repository, will be responsible for the direct supervision of study staff and students in the laboratory, will train research assistants on basic lab operations, will administer data quality assurance checks, and will perform critical tasks that will facilitate the dissemination of research analyses into peer-reviewed publications.

Qualifications



  • At least two years of experience working or volunteering in research lab settings with human subjects. (Required)
  • At least one year of experience working or volunteering in a setting with direct contact with children and/or clinical populations (Required)
  • General understanding of experimental research design & methods. (Required)
  • Strong quantitative skills in statistics and programming. (Required)
  • Multitasking skills, i.e., independently prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely fashion and demonstrating flexibility in responding to changing needs and resolving issues. (Required)
  • Skill in working both independently and collaboratively in a face-paced environment, as well as work as part of a team. (Required)
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivation. (Required)
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing, including proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. (Required)
  • Fluency in either Mandarin or Spanish to facilitate data collection and infrastructure creation of projects involving racial/ethnic minorities. (Required)
  • Knowledge of forms and submission procedures to obtain research approval from, and comply with the requirements of, the UCLA Institutional Review Board and Office for the Protection of Human Subjects. (Preferred)

  • Bachelor's Degree In cognitive science, neuroscience, computer science, engineering, psychology, physics, or math or an equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)
