Position Summary

The School of Nursing is looking to hire a Student Research Assistant (RA) to work on a National League of Nursing (NLN)-funded study testing the impact of race on nursing students??? cultural humility using standardized patient telehealth case studies.  Student participants will be recruited from the School of Nursing???s Masters Direct Entry (MDE) program.  Recruitment is slated to begin in October.  The main role of the RA is to lead recruitment efforts during fall semester 2024 and manage study participants and coordinate data collection during spring and summer 2025.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include:

  • Presenting the study at a Town Hall meeting via Zoom to approximately 180 MDE students
  • Sending out informational emails for recruitment and communicating via email with participants throughout the study (Fall 2024 ??? Summer 2025)
  • Visiting each of the 5 MDE 5x5 classrooms either Monday or Friday around 12:30-1:00 to answer any questions about the study, distribute and collect consent forms from anticipated n=75 students
  • Offer additional time(s) to collect consent forms
  • Scheduling times with each participant to complete their proctored quiz and their two telehealth interviews
  • Proctoring implicit bias surveys in a classroom setting for up to 40 students at a time
  • Helping to train the standardized patients (SP)
  • Proctoring telehealth case studies with SP to answer logistical questions, keep time and record session
  • Keep record of participants who have completed each stage of study, including: consent, Qualtrics surveys, Bias tests, and post-intervention nurse notes
  • Help analyze and compile findings in August 2025
  • Attend weekly study team meetings as needed
  • Other tasks as needed

This is a grant funded position.  Continued employment is based on availability of funding.  This is a temporary position with a flexible work schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

  • HS Diploma

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least one year of related experience, or equivalent in education and/or health-related field.
  • Computer fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to present information to groups of people in-person and via Zoom, mostly in classroom settings
  • Majority of work will be remote, but must be able to travel to School of Nursing campus for participant recruitment and proctoring computer-based exam
  • Ability to work around the School of Nursing MDE student schedule
  • Ability to work some nights/weekends if necessary to fit participant telehealth interviews
