Paramount+ announced on Thursday morning that its Bob Marley biopic Bob Marley: One Love, starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, will begin streaming on the platform in the U.S. and Canada beginning Friday, April 12, with information as to the film’s availability in additional markets to be announced at a later date.
Pic comes to the platform after a strong run in theaters, which saw it set a midweek Valentine’s Day record, as well as new opening-day records for a music biopic in the UK, France and other territories, and the all-time biggest opening in Jamaica. Celebrating the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love, peace and unity, the film tells Marley’s incredible story of overcoming adversity and the journey behind his revolutionary music that changed the world.
To date, the film from Paramount Pictures has grossed over $175 million worldwide. A Plan B Entertainment / State Street Pictures / Tuff Gong Pictures Production, it was directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard) and also stars Lashana Lynch and James Norton. Written by Terence Winter & Frank E. Flowers and Zach Baylin & Reinaldo Marcus Green, the script stemmed from a story by Winter & Flowers.
Robert Teitel, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Ziggy Marley, Rita Marley and Cedella Marley produced, with Brad Pitt, Richard Hewitt, Orly Marley and Matt Solodky serving as exec producers.
Also seeing early success this year with its Mean Girls musical, which grossed over $104M worldwide, Paramount on February 2 debuted the animated fantasy The Tiger’s Apprentice on its streaming service. Upcoming theatrical releases for the studio include the Johnny Knoxville addiction pic Sweet Dreams (April 12), John Krasinski’s live-action/animation hybrid IF (May 17), and A Quiet Place: Day One (June 28).
