CinemaCon this morning got a first look at the extended trailer for and a 3D scene from Paramount’s animated Transformers One. The origins story is due for release on September 13. From Paramount Animation and Hasbro; in Association with New Republic Pictures, it’s directed by Josh Cooley.
Transformers One is the long-awaited origin tale of how the most iconic characters in the Transformers universe, Orion Pax and D-16, went from brothers-in-arms to becoming sworn enemies, Optimus Prime and Megatron. This is the first animated Transformers movie in nearly 40 years.
Chris Hemsworth stars as Orion Pax alongside Brian Tyree Henry as D-16 and Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1. Also starring are Keegan-Michael Key (B-127), Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Hamm.
Via video message, Johansson introduced Hemsworth to the Colosseum stage. Said Hemsworth, “I am so excited to play a young Optimus Prime and reveal a side of this character that audiences haven’t seen before.” Henry joined Hemsworth to introduce the trailer.
The trailer, which will officially drop on April 18, was followed by a scene in 3D as the guys seek refuge inside a train and tussle with Elita-1. The train speeds of and crashes through the surface. “It’s beautiful,” says Orion Pax who begs Elita to listen to what he has to say, “We know where the matrix of leadership is… We found a message… It will change all of our lives.” The story takes place on Cybertron, which has been described as a character in itself.
