Part Two’ Undergoes Title Change Before 2025 Release

Jon M. Chu’s second Wicked film, previously known as Wicked Part 2, has now been titled Wicked: For Good.

The change references a highly anticipated song and duet between Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) in which the pair sing together about how their frenemies relationship has impacted their lives forever. The second film will arrive in theaters November 21, 2025, which was previously set.

Grande, Erivo and Chu posted a video of the title change on Instagram.

The first film from Universal reached the $500M global milestone at the box office in early December as it added $21.5M from 81 offshore markets (-39%) to lift the international cume to $166M. Wicked: Part One reached $525M global total in under a month since its theatrical release.

Both films are adapted from Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, which tells the origin story of the Wicked Witch of the West and her former friendship with Glinda the Good Witch. Stephen Schwartz’s musical adaptation of Wicked debuted on Broadway in 2003 starring Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel.

Produced by Marc Platt, the script was written by the original Broadway musical book author Winnie Holzman and Cruella co-scribe Dana Fox.

At the end of November 2024, Wicked: Part One became the highest-grossing movie ever based on a Broadway musical at the domestic box office. The film also had the biggest global and domestic opening for a movie based on a Broadway show. These are far from the only records the first film has broken.

Both Grande and Erivo were nominated for Golden Globes for their performances in Wicked: Part One.

Wicked: For Good will see the return of the pink and green duo, Jonathan Bailey’s Fiyero, Marissa Bode’s Nessarose, Ethan Slater’s Boq, Jeff Goldblum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and more.
