EXCLUSIVE: Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans) is the latest addition to Paramount and Spyglass Media Group‘s Scream 7, Deadline has learned.
No word on the character he’s playing. As previously announced, Neve Campbell is set to reprise her scream queen role as Sidney Prescott, alongside other up-and-comers including Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, and Mckenna Grace. As of now, the slasher’s logline also remains under wraps, and we know only that May has been tapped to play Sidney’s daughter.
The film is the latest for the meta horror franchise on the heels of Scream VI, which brought in a franchise-high domestic gross exceeding $108 million in March 2023. Collectively, films in the series have earned more than $900 million in worldwide box office receipts.
Kevin Williamson, architect of the Scream franchise who scripted the original Wes Craven film, will direct from a script by Guy Busick. Also aboard, following collaborations with the scribe on 2022’s Scream reboot and the aforementioned Scream VI, are James Vanderbilt, William Sherak, and Paul Neinstein, who will produce for Project X Entertainment. The film is set to hit theaters worldwide on February 27, 2026.
Breaking out with his role as Logan, the high school bully of Gabriel LaBelle’s 16-year-old Sammy, in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, Rechner has also starred in Season 2 of the hit Netflix show Heartbreak High. Recently wrapping the film Out Come the Wolves with Giancarlo Esposito, the Australian actor is repped by CAA, Marquee Management, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
