EXCLUSIVE: Shōgun helmer Jonathan Van Tulleken has signed on to direct and executive produce Lucky, Apple TV+s upcoming limited drama series, starring and also exec produced by Anya Taylor-Joy.
Created by Jonathan Tropper (Apple TV+’s See) and produced by Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Tropper’s Tropper Ink, Lucky is based on Marissa Stapley’s bestselling novel and Reese’s Book Club pick of the same name.
In Lucky, Taylor-Joy stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.
Van Tulleken will direct several episodes, including the pilot, and serve as executive producer.
Tropper serves as writer, co-showrunner and executive producer through his Tropper Ink banner and under his overall deal with Apple TV+, along with Cassie Pappas (Silo). Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter executive produce for Hello Sunshine, a part of Candle Media. Taylor-Joy executive produces through her production banner Ladykiller.
Van Tulleken also is directing episodes of Apple’s upcoming crime drama Dope Thief and Prime Video’s Bladerunner 2099. His other episodic directing credits include British crime drama Top Boy. Van Tulleken is repped by WME and Grandview.
