Shrinking co-creator Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso) is stepping in front of the camera in Season 2.
Sources tell Deadline there had been multiple attempts to have Goldstein appear in the Apple dramedy but things didn’t pan out. When the perfect role came along—which btw is currently top secret—he couldn’t say no. He is billed as a guest star in Season 2, which is currently in production.
Shrinking follows grieving therapist Jimmy (Jason Segel) who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives … including his own. In addition to Segel, the series stars Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Lukita Maxwell, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie and Ted McGinley.
Segel and Williams recently earned individual Emmy Award acting nominations for their portrayal of therapists in the series.
Co-created by Emmy Award-winners and Ted Lasso executive producer Bill Lawrence and co-executive producer Brett Goldstein, and Segel, Shrinking is produced by Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence and Goldstein are under overall deals and Lawrence’s Doozer Productions. Lawrence, Segel, Goldstein, Neil Goldman, James Ponsoldt, Randall Winston, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Rachna Fruchbom, Brian Gallivan and Annie Mebane serve as executive producers.
Following the end of three seasons on Apple’s Ted Lasso in the role of Roy Kent—which may or may not be the end of the Ted Lasso-verse—Goldstein embarked on his first stand-up world tour, Brett Goldstein: The Second Best Night Of Your Life. Up next, he has tour dates in Los Angeles set for May. For his portrayal of Roy Kent, Goldstein won two Emmy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy.
Up next, he will flex his voice acting skills in The Garfield Movie, in theaters May 24.
