It’s a wrap for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things. Production has officially ended, nearly a year after it began on Jan. 8, 2024. Netflix has released a slew of photos that take us behind-the-scenes during the past year on the set of Stranger Things 5. You can see them above and below.
As previously announced, Season 5 saw new cast members Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, Alex Breaux and Linda Hamilton sign on for the final go-round. They joined returning principal cast members Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Natalia Dyer and Charlie Heaton.
We know there will be time jump in Season 5 which will pick up in the fall of 1987, more than a year after the events of season 4, which began in March 1986. The Season 4 finale ended with Vecna opening a gate to the Upside Down, leading to mass destruction in Hawkins.
Previously announced episode titles for Season 5 are “The Crawl,” “The Vanishing of _____,” “The Turnbow Trap,” “Sorcerer,” “Shock Jock,” “Escape From Camazotz,” “The Bridge” and “The Rightside Up.”
Other than that, details are scarce on what Season 5 is about. Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer previously told Tudum that they wrote a 25-page mythology document for Netflix back in Season 1 that delves into the mythology and lore of the Upside Down. “We were like, ‘We know what’s going on in the Upside Down, more or less, but we want it to be unknowable. We want it to be mysterious,’ ” Matt Duffer explained. “But they were like, ‘Yeah, but can you write it down?’ And so we wrote it all down.”
While Season 4 revealed quite a bit about the Upside Down in Season 4, the final remaining questions are expected to be answered in Season 5. “The last remaining questions that are answered in that document, we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5,” said Ross Duffer during Geeked Week in 2022. “And that’s really going to affect what Season 5 is about.”
