Swedish rapper Gaboro – real name Ninos Khouri – was shot dead in a multi-story car park Thursday evening.
The BBC reports that Swedish police were investigating the suspected murder of the musician, who died of his injuries after being shot near a parking garage in Norrkoping, a city south-west of the Swedish capital Stockholm. Police later confirmed that a man in his 20s had been found injured at the scene and was later pronounced dead in hospital.
Gaboro’s Spotify platform has hundreds of thousands of monthly listeners, and tributes to the rapper began appearing there soon after the news of his death was reported.
The New York Post reports that a video purporting to be filmed by the shooter of the incident began circulating online shortly after it occurred, showing a person carrying a handgun, firing multiple shots and then hitting a man as he attempted to run away. However, Swedish police have not confirmed this to be related to the shooting.
The BBC reports that Khouri got his big break in 2022, with his song Browski going viral on TikTok. He soon gained more than 100million song streams on Spotify. He was known for wearing balaclava and sunglasses in photographs, fully obscuring his face.
The Post adds that, In the last two years, Gaboro’s songs have attracted more than 226,000 monthly Spotify listeners.
His most popular single Harki, released just this year, has been streamed on Spotify more than 11 million times.
Khouri’s murder follows that of fellow Swede C.Gambino earlier this year. Gambino, real name Karar Ramadan (not connected to US rapper Childish Gambino) was killed in June. A third Swedish rapper Einar was killed in a gang shooting in 2021.
