Exclusive: The Georgia List, which highlights the most promising unmade scripts from writers with close ties to the state of Georgia, has opened its second round of submissions (through June 15, 2024). Writers with close ties to the state of Georgia are invited to submit a feature film script, pilot, play, or musical for consideration by uploading it to the Black List website during this period. Writers who upload their scripts to blcklst.com must choose to opt in their scripts for The Georgia List.
The Georgia List, which launched in 2022, is the product of collaboration between The Black List, the noted writer-centric entity whose work includes its annual list, script marketplace, writer labs, and film and television productions; and two Georgia-based organizations; Collective Moxie, a DEI consultancy dedicated to inclusive storytelling; and Trilith Studios, the largest purpose-built studio in North America, which also focuses on nurturing local storytellers.
The inaugural list featured seven screenplays and three pilots from writers who were born or raised in Georgia, currently live in Georgia, or have spent large periods of time in Georgia. In addition, writer/director Jamie Linden (We Are Marshall, Dear John) selected Georgia native Cat Rhinehart’s Grief Party to receive a $10,000 grant and a staged reading of her work.
“It’s no secret that this one is personal for me, having grown up in Columbus, so returning for a second year is a real joy, especially with this group of partners,” said Black List founder Franklin Leonard. “I have no doubt that we’re going to find another group of writers who everyone in film, television, and theater should read, just as we did last year. Speaking of which, if you haven’t yet read last year’s Georgia List folks, you should probably get on that.”
The Black List, Trilith Studios, Fifth Season, Content Talent South, Collective Moxie, 3 Arts Entertainment, and the Alliance Theater will reprise their support of the Georgia List by reading film, episodic, and theater shortlist selections and providing input on which scripts are most promising. Trilith Studios will also provide fee waivers for the first 75 qualified scripts that are submitted.
In addition, managers from 3 Arts Entertainment and Content Talent South will meet with all finalists on the Georgia List for possible representation, and executives from Fifth Season (whose last Georgia production My Best Friend’s Exorcism is now out on Amazon Prime) will meet with all finalists on the Georgia List for a possible development deal.
“Collective Moxie is so excited to be back again with the GA List celebrating the diversity of writers from this great state,” said Founder & CEO Julie Ann Crommett. “We hope the ongoing journey of identifying extraordinary talent and the possibility of production in Georgia will lead to some projects being made and shared with the world. Shared humanity and understanding comes from sharing our stories, and there is no doubt Georgia and the GA List can lead the way.”
