Lionsgate’s Trey Edward Shults directed and written suspense thriller Hurry Up Tomorrow starring The Weeknd in his big screen debut, Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan, is getting a release date of May 16.

The movie starring the Grammy winning and Oscar and Emmy nominated recording superstar is timed with the debut of his new album and tour.

Hurry Up Tomorrow is inspired by and featuring new music from The Weeknd. The project also reps the conclusion to The Weeknd’s artistic trilogy, completing the journey that began with “After Hours” and “Dawn FM.”

The movie is produced by The Weeknd’s Manic Phase and Reza Fahimalong with the late Kevin Turen and HarrisonKreiss.  EPs are Jenna Ortega, TreyEdward Shults, Michael Rapino, Ryan Kroft, Wassim “Sal” Slaiby, and Harrison Huffman.

Shults’ canon includes previous A24 titles Waves, the psychological horror, It Comes At Night and his feature directorial debut Krisha.. That emotionally charged drama sparked his career and won several awards including the National Board of Review’s Best Directorial Debut, The Independent Spirit John Cassavetes Award, The Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award at the Gothams, and both the Grand Jury Award and Audience Award at SXSW.
