Raj Kapoor and Nargis started a romantic relationship on the sets of their 1955 film Shree 420. Kapoor was already married to Krishna Raj Kapoor, while Nargis was only 16. Their romance lasted for around 7 years. Reportedly, Nargis parted ways from Raj Kapoor as he could not divorce his first wife and marry her. According to the book, Raj Kapoor’s wife, Krishna had spoken about her husband’s affair with Nargis during a conversation with Bunny Reuben. She spoke about how he used to come home drunk in the night every day after the Pardesi actress married Sunil. She also revealed that he had collapsed in the bathtub while crying for Nargis. Well, it was a tough phase for the Kapoor family to witness Raj Kapoor crying for another woman. Moreover, as per Bollywood Shaadi, Nargis even tried seeking the help of then-Home Minister Morarji Desai to find out whether she could legally marry the actor when they were in a relationship. But, there was no way the two would get united and then they parted ways. In his autobiography, Khullam Khulla, Raj’s son Rishi Kapoor confirmed his father’s adulterous relationship with Nargis. Sunil and Nargis are parents to Sanjay Dutt, Namrata Dutt and Priya Dutt.
